Sea to Table was founded by father & son duo Michael & Sean Dimin who have spent years building relationships with traditional American fishing communities across the United States, and helping to distribute local, sustainable, wild-caught American seafood to discerning chefs, universities, and now home cooks across the country. More information about their mission can be found here as well as press-releases here!
The entire concept of Sea to Table is fascinating, since most food boxes have too many frills.
(aka ingredients I cannot eat or recipes I know I will never make because ain't nobody got time for that)
And I'm not just saying that it's super cool in a super spammy, I got this product to try in exchange for my honest review way, but rather in a, I mean it, it truly is awesome way.
WHY? Because, FRESH FISH WAS DELIVERED TO MY DOORSTEP, FROZEN, WRAPPED AND READY TO BE SAVED FOR LATER IN THE FREEZER OR DEFROSTED THAT DAY FOR DINNER IN A NIFY ECOBAG TO HELP KEEP MY FISH ORGANIZED IN THE FREEZER.
Don't just read my over excited words, watch my unboxing video below
(Be warned, my voice is VERY high pitched during recordings! Check out that glamor shot thumbnail)
- Six full size servings, meaning the hubs and I get three different meals to try with our new fish!
- Northwest Pacific Cod --> a mild white fish that is naturally low in fat with flaky meat
- Alaska Coho Salmon --> MY FAVE FISH - high omega-3 oil content of make
- Wild Gulf Shrimp --> Peeled and de-veined - ready for stir fry!
One of the neatest features of the fish packed was the traceability sticker on the back, that told me where the fish was caught, by which vessel and even HOW the fish was caught (all about sustainability here!)
FIRST--> USE AMBER20 FOR A 20% OFF YOUR ORDER!
Once you receive your box, you should keep the fish frozen until you plan to prepare it, and then use within 2-3 days upon being defrosted. (On the bottom of each package, it gives an approximate of 8-10 hours to defrost). Fun fact: their fish is flash-frozen once it reaches the landing dock, and then is delivered to you-- still frozen to ensure top quality taste and texture. Then cook as you please! Their blog has tons of recipes and tips to help you, and I'll be sharing some of my go to recipes below to use!
HOW I WILL ENJOY MY SEA TO TABLE FISH
I plan on spacing out three delicious fish meals over the course of the next few weeks for my husband and I to try out, I have NEVER had salmon with the skin on so I will NEED to follow this blog post on how to keep the skin crispy and hopefully not gross myself out ;). I'm a pretty plane Jane when it comes to cooking, so salt and pepper with a little olive oil is my favorite go to method of cooking fish, but below are some past recipes I've made and loved that you could try out with your own order!
- Teriyaki Salmon
- Tomato Topped Salmon
- Peach Mango Shrimp (used with store bought salsa)
- Lemon and Garlic Shrimp
- Do you LOVE seafood? What's your favorite?
- Do you CARE about where/how your meats/seafoods are farmed and cultivated?
- What's your go to shrimp, salmon, or teriyaki recipe?
